Álvaro is a postdoctoral researcher in the Retinal Degeneration group at CABIMER, specializing in stem cell differentiation strategies and advanced therapies. He earned his Doctor of Medical Sciences degree from the Karolinska Institute and has extensive experience in preclinical safety testing and gene editing. His research focuses on developing retinal differentiation methods for AMD treatment and applying CRISPR-Cas9 to address Retinitis Pigmentosa. He is currently undertaking internships at Tecnopolo Mario Veronesi (Mirandola, Italy) to gain expertise in 3D bioprinting and at CELLINK (Gothenburg, Sweden) to deepen his knowledge of bioink development and the clinical translation potential of 3D bioprinting. As an MSCA Postdoctoral Fellow, he is focused on developing artificial retina models for preclinical studies.
