Lewis Dunnigan has held a variety of roles in the energy and sustainability space. In 2010, they were an Undergraduate Researcher at The University of Edinburgh. In 2012, they were a Visiting Researcher (MEng) at the University of Adelaide. From 2014-2018, they were a PhD Student at the University of Adelaide, where they developed a combined pyrolysis and combustion process to co-generate biochar and renewable energy from biomass. In 2018, they also became a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Adelaide. Additionally, they co-founded two companies in 2018: Bygen, a sustainable producer of high-quality and tailored activated carbon, and VitaChar, a provider of small-scale batch pyrolysis systems for biochar production from organic and plastic wastes.
Lewis Dunnigan has a long history of educational accomplishments. Lewis earned a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD (Deans' Commendation Award) in Chemical Engineering from the University of Adelaide in 2018, and a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2018. Lewis is currently enrolled in the Company Directors Course at the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Lewis also earned a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Chemical Engineering from The University of Edinburgh in 2013.
