Andrew is a registered nurse by background and as a Charge Nurse, Nurse Specialist and Nurse Consultant worked in oncology, orthopaedics, mental health, HIV & Aids and palliative care in the UK and Australia. In the 1990s Andrew developed and was director of Patrick House, a hospice specifically for people living with and dying from HIV Related Brain Impairment (HRBI)/Aids Dementia. Patrick House became a centre of excellence supporting people from throughout the UK. After writing a book about HRBI with the University of Stirling Andrew went on to consult on and develop HRBI services in the USA, Canada, France, Australia and India. Following the success of Patrick House Andrew was appointed as the Palliative Care lead at NHS London where, through a lot of consultation, he created the Strategic Framework for Palliative Care in London. In recent years Andrew has been a Director at Trinity Hospice and Chief Executive of the Skin Care Campaign and the British Liver Trust.

Andrew chaired an All Party Parliamentary Inquiry (APPI) into Skin Cancer and co-chaired another APPI into Liver Disease – both reports have led to significant improvements into prevention, detection, treatment and support for people at risk of or affected by skin cancer and liver disease. In a voluntary capacity Andrew has been chairperson of OXAIDS, The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust, Witness Against Abuse and was a committee member of Children in Need. Currently Andrew is a vice-chair of governors at Sellincourt School in Wandsworth.
