Richard Liang is the current CTO at Brickeye. Richard previously worked as a Graduate Student Research Assistant at the University of Waterloo from May 2012 to April 2014. Richard's Master Thesis was titled "Dual-Parameter Opto-Mechanical Fiber Optic Sensors for Harsh Environment Sensing".
Liang's work focuses on two opto-mechanical components - the investigation the effect of mechanical surface modulation of fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) and the design of a mechanical packaging strategy for deploying optical sensor in harsh environment sensing (>150C and 3000 PSI).
The result of the project was a practical and economical coating method, which has demonstrated highly repeatable sensor response and eliminated the need of sophisticated metal deposition process. The modification method enabled simultaneous dual-parameter (pressure and temperature) measurement on each sensing point. The project resulted in a pending US patent.
Richard Liang has a Master of Applied Science in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics Engineering with Distinction from the University of Waterloo.
Some of their coworkers include Doug Alguire - VP, Industrial Sensing, Diogo Beltran - Director, Customer Success, and Alex Fuentes - EVP, Strategic Growth. Richard Liang reports to Tim Angus, CEO. A direct report to Richard Liang is and Dave Burlington - Director, Hardware Engineering.
