Shala King has worked in the medical field since 2004. Shala began their career as a Secretary at American Merchandising Specialists, Inc., where they were responsible for answering office calls, typing invoices and memorandums, taking inventory of supplies, and creating spreadsheets for monthly meetings. In 2008, they joined University Hospitals, where they worked as a Transplant Secretary and Health Information Specialist. In 2021, they became a Behavioral Health Access Counselor at Brave Health.

Shala King attended Cleveland State University from 2007 to 2009, studying Communication and Media Studies. From 2012 to 2013, they attended Cuyahoga Community College, studying Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration. Finally, from 2016 to 2019, they attended College for America at Southern New Hampshire University, obtaining an Associate of Arts in Business Administration, Management and Operations.
