Eugene Shabash

Instructor at BOW VALLEY COLLEGE

Evgeny (Eugene) Shabash started his professional career in mental health and addictions after earning a graduate degree in medicine and specializing in psychiatry. For more than 15 years he has been working in this area in Kazakhstan, Israel, and Canada in both inpatient and outpatient settings. In Israel, alongside clinical work, Eugene conducted research exploring the benefits and side effects of psychotropic medications. Since 2004, Eugene has been living in Canada, and since 2005, he has worked at the mental health day program at Rockyview General Hospital. While working there he graduated from the University of Calgary’s Master's of Social Work program in 2014 as a part-time student. He consults clients struggling with acute and persistent mental health problems at the hospital and in private practice. Eugene’s clinical work is mostly informed by narrative, feministic, solution-focused and cognitive behavioural therapy methodologies.

Eugene started teaching at Bow Valley College in January 2017. A year and a half prior to joining Bow Valley College, Eugene had been teaching courses at Columbia College and supervising practicum students at his workplace.

Eugene maintains lifelong learning in and outside of his profession. He likes travelling, reading, and doing physical activities such as cycling, swimming, and hiking. Eugene also supports others in expanding their horizons.
