Matthew Skinner

Head of Materials Innovation at Boston Meats

Matthew Skinner has worked in a variety of roles in the materials and biotechnology industries. In 2021, they began their current position as Head of Materials Innovation and Research Scientist at Tender Food. Prior to this, they were a Biological Safety Engineer at Philips in 2020. From 2017 to 2020, they were a Sr. Research Chemist and Research Chemist I at PPG Industries, where they were responsible for developing proprietary resin and coating technologies, translating resin production from the laboratory to manufacturing scale, and mentoring a team of three synthesis technicians. From 2015 to 2017, they were a PhD Intern at Sanofi Genzyme, where they synthesized polymer nanoparticles from FDA-approved hyaluronic acid and demonstrated the application of these nanoparticles as a nontoxic, endosome-disrupting vehicle for enhancing cytosolic delivery of active pharmaceutical ingredients. In 2011, they were a Research Chemist at Semprus BioSciences, where they were a major contributor to the development of a polymeric medical device coating for reducing infection and thrombosis complications associated with implantation. Matthew was also a co-inventor on two granted patents for vascular access catheter coating technology. Prior to this, they were a Research Intern at both Sanofi Genzyme in 2009 and Semprus BioSciences in 2010.

Matthew Skinner received their Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis in 2011. Matthew then went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy in Polymer Science and Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, which they completed in 2017.
