John Miscia, MAS, CPM has extensive work experience in law enforcement. John began their career as a Patrolman for the Township of Bedminster, where they conducted various patrols, responded to dispatched calls, and enforced motor vehicle and criminal laws. In 2002, they joined the Borough of Madison Police Department as a Patrolman, eventually being promoted to Detective. As a Detective, they investigated major crimes, juvenile crime, and handled narcotics operations. In 2011, they were promoted to Sergeant, where they served as the patrol squad supervisor and managed the operation of officers. John also served as the Domestic Violence liaison to Morris County, managed the Madison Police Auxiliary Unit, and was the SWAT Commander for Madison PD. In 2015, they were promoted to Lieutenant and most recently, in April 2021, they became the Chief of Police for the Borough of Madison.
John Miscia, MAS, CPM has a diverse education history. John obtained a Master's Degree in Administrative Science (M.A.S.) from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2015. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science and Government at the same university from 1995 to 2000.
In 2021, John attended Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command, where they studied SPSC Class #496. John then pursued further education at Rutgers University from 2022 to 2023, focusing on Certified Public Management.
Throughout their career, John also engaged in professional training programs. In 2001, they completed the Basic Recruit Class at Somerset County Police Academy (Class #26-01), where they served as the Class Leader or President. In 2013, they participated in the West Point Command and Leadership program offered by NJSACOP (New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police). Additionally, in 2018, John attended the FBI MALEEDS program.
In terms of certifications, John obtained the Certified Public Manager designation from Rutgers School of Public Affairs and Administration in February 2023. John also became a Board Member of Florham Board of Education in January 2023. Additionally, they earned the Accredited Chief Executive (ACE) certification from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police in January 2022.
