Gunnar Kern's work experience began in 2017 at the Brookings Wastewater Treatment Plant, where they worked as a Student Operator until August 2019. In 2021, Gunnar joined Bolton & Menk, Inc. as an Environmental Design Engineer, a role that they currently hold.

Gunnar Kern completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil Engineering at South Dakota State University from 2015 to 2019. Later, they pursued a Master's of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the same university from 2019 to 2021.
