Job description

The technical and artistic assembly of gameplay spaces is a critical task in modern video game development.  Bit Reactor is seeking a Lead Level Designer who can both guide and organize the Level Design team and contribute intelligently to the fabrication of shippable game content. This role applies to our current game under development. 

  • Collaborate with Art, Design and Engineering to contribute directly to the fabrication of levels and content alongside other Level Designers
  • Guide, organize and mentor other Level Designers to deliver high quality content at a rapid pace
  • Promote the vision of gameplay through the design of levels, content, and gameplay experiences
  • Provide technical guidance for the development of levels, combat encounters, and integration of narrative content
  • Authoring scripted events and sequences to support gameplay and combat within level spaces
  • Collaborate with production to break goals into assignable task sets
  • Collaborate with design, creative leadership, and engineering to identify issues and unexpected demands
  • Working closely with design and creative leadership to develop level design standards and bring the vision of the gameplay to life 
  • 5+ years’ experience in the game industry in a Level Design role, including at least one major title shipped through majority of production cycle
  • Excellent understanding of level design practices and technologies
  • Expertise with Unreal Engine, including level systems, technical markup, blueprint scripting, and a functional understanding of technical and cinematic systems
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Artistic judgment necessary to compose and visually balance gameplay spaces
  • Experience as a Lead Level Designer in the full production cycle of a mid-large scale video game production
  • Shipped titles within the strategy/tactical genres and extensive experience playing games of this nature
  • Elite level of scripting proficiency with Unreal’s blueprint system

Bit Reactor prefers to hire candidates who are willing to relocate to Hunt Valley, Maryland, but is open to remote options.
