Eve Coomber has worked as a Senior Scientist at bit.bio since January 2023. Prior to that, they held the position of Senior Genetic Engineering Specialist at the Wellcome Sanger Institute from August 2021 to January 2023.
From 2013 to 2021, Eve worked at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. During this time, they held various roles, including Genetic Engineering Specialist / Senior Research Assistant, where they developed CRISPR/Cas9 screens for non-coding variants associated with blood cell traits. Eve was also part of the Talented Women's Impact Programme and had a part-time secondment to the Gene Editing R&D team.
Before joining the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Eve worked as an Advanced Research Assistant in different teams, such as the Pathogen Laboratory team, where they created protein-tagged cell lines, and the Genomic Mutation and Genetic Disease group, where they created zebrafish and mouse models of developmental disorders.
Earlier in their career, Eve worked as a Lesuire Assistant and Family Support Worker at Parent's Consortium. Eve also gained experience as a Summer Student in the Regeneration Lab led by Aziz Aboobaker, working on adult stem cells in planarian worms. Additionally, they were a Summer Student at The Gene Transfer Technology Group at UCL and a Work Experience Student at Abbott.
Overall, Eve Coomber has a wealth of experience in genetic engineering, research, and project management across a variety of organizations.
Eve Coomber attended Gravesend Grammar School for Girls from 2001 to 2008, where they did not pursue a specific degree or field of study. Following their secondary education, they enrolled at the University for the Creative Arts from 2008 to 2009, completing a Foundation diploma in Art and Design with a focus on Graphic Design. Subsequently, they attended the University of Nottingham from 2009 to 2013, where they obtained an MSci Hons degree in Human Genetics.
