Michael Best's work experience begins in 2018 at Wageningen University & Research, where they worked as a Researcher. In this role, they conducted research on genome-scale models of Pseudomonas Putida, analyzing and comparing computational models and conducting wet lab experiments. Michael also worked with linear optimization software and employed various techniques in the biological lab.

Michael then moved on to Rijk Zwaan in 2019, where they held a Research Internship in Bioinformatics. Here, they developed data processing pipelines for identifying centromere sequences in crop plants and gained expertise in plant breeding, DNA sequencing, and centromeres.

In 2020, Michael joined LINKIT as a Data Engineer via LINKIT. Michael completed a bootcamp to develop skills in Python, Scala, Docker, Spark, Kafka, SQL, NoSQL, AWS, and Azure. Michael worked with various big data technologies such as Spark, Kafka, Flink, MongoDB, Cassandra, and AWS to build scalable data pipelines and streaming services.

Following their time at LINKIT, Michael joined CZ in 2020 as a Data Engineer. Here, they created production-ready solutions for projects, including setting up ELT pipelines, developing CI/CD pipelines, and deploying interactive dashboards. Michael also built and maintained a Flask web service to serve machine learning model predictions, significantly decreasing processing time.

In 2021, Michael joined OKRA.ai as a Data Engineer. Michael worked on data engineering tasks until 2023 when they transitioned to their current role at BioStrand, a subsidiary of IPA.

Overall, Michael Best has gained experience in data engineering, bioinformatics, and research, and has demonstrated expertise in various programming languages, big data technologies, and laboratory techniques.

Michael Best obtained a Master's degree in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) between 2017 and 2019. Prior to that, they completed a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico from 2013 to 2016.
