Joe Vargas

Senior Director Reagent Research at Biocare Medical

Joe Vargas has over 30 years of work experience in various roles related to the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. Joe began their career in 1988 as a Student Contract/Electron Microscope Technician at the Letterman Army Institute of Research. From 1993 to 1998, they worked at the University of California, San Francisco as a Staff Research Associate II.

In 1998, Joe joined Roche as an R&D Biologist, where they worked until 2000. Joe then worked at Chiron Corporation as a Staff Research Associate from 2000 to 2001, followed by a role as a Staff Research Associate at Onyx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from 2001 to 2002.

In 2002, Joe joined Gladstone Institutes as a Senior Research Technologist for a few months before moving to Avigen, where they worked as an Associate Scientist from 2002 to 2005.

Joe's extensive experience in the industry continued when they joined Biocare Medical in 2005. Joe held various roles at Biocare Medical, including Director of Research and Development, Director of Technology Development, and Senior Director of Operations Support. Currently, Joe holds the position of Senior Director of New Product Development at Biocare Medical.

Joe Vargas completed their Master of Science (MS) degree in Biomedical Laboratory Science with a subdiscipline in Immunology from San Francisco State University. This was achieved between 1993 and 1997. Prior to this, Joe obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology/Technologist from the same university, although the specific years are not provided. In addition, Joe earned an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in General Studies from San Joaquin Delta College, though the dates are also unspecified.

Joe Vargas also holds two professional certifications: Biological Electron Microscopy from San Joaquin Delta College, obtained in June 1988; and Histotechnologist (HTL) from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), obtained in September 2004.
