Jim Farmar has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of biochemistry and pharmaceuticals. Jim began their career as a Senior Scientist at ImClone Systems Inc in 1989 and worked there until 1993. Jim then joined the New York Blood Center as a Laboratory Director in 1994 and remained in that role until 2008.
In 2008, Jim became a Faculty Associate at the Einstein College of Medicine, and the following year, they joined the University of Virginia Health System as an Assistant Professor of Research and Assistant Director of the Mass Spectrometry Core. During their time at the University of Virginia, they also served as a Senior Scientist, where they worked on characterizing and quantifying small molecules and proteins in blood plasma.
In 2012, Jim joined Merck as a Biochemist III, working on process development of biopharmaceuticals and other molecules. Jim then transitioned to the role of Senior Specialist, Engineering, where they focused on advanced analytics applied to process development using mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, separation technologies, and protein characterization. Jim held this position until 2022.
Currently, Jim works as a Principal Scientist at BIO-CAT, where they continue their work in the field of biochemistry.
Jim Farmar completed their education in a chronological order. Jim first attended the University of Scranton from 1975 to 1979, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Jim then pursued further studies at Brown University from 1979 to 1985, where they obtained a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. Following this, they attended The Rockefeller University from 1984 to 1989, where they completed a PostDoctorate degree in Medical Biochemistry and Physical Organic Chemistry.
