Laurie Black has a diverse work experience primarily related to the whisky industry. Laurie is currently serving as the Co-Founder and Head of Whisky at Bevvy, where they coordinate with a team of app developers, manages a large database of whisky bottles, and builds relationships with distilleries and bottlers. Laurie also represents Bevvy in video content, conducting numerous tastings with industry experts.
Prior to their current role, Laurie worked as a Whisky Specialist at Whisky Auctioneer Ltd for three years. Laurie initially joined the Content Team, cataloguing and authenticating whisky bottles. Their responsibilities expanded to include customer services and hosting Instagram Live tastings, promoting the auctions and interviewing industry professionals.
Before joining Whisky Auctioneer Ltd, Laurie worked as a Whisky Specialist at McTear's Auctioneers. Their role involved valuing bottles, responding to valuation inquiries, and conducting auctions. Laurie also gained experience in other types of auctions, such as jewellery, furniture, and antiques.
Laurie has also worked as a Senior Retail Advisor at Whiski Rooms, where they conducted whisky tastings for various audiences and gained experience in stock orders, event booking, cash handling, and merchandising. Additionally, they briefly worked as a Whisky Broker for The Whisky Market, where they engaged in cold-calling for a cask investment company.
Earlier in their career, Laurie served as the Customer Experience and Editor of 'Ferment' magazine at Beer52.com, contributing to the UK's largest craft beer club. Laurie was responsible for sourcing and creating content for the in-house magazine. Laurie also worked as a Senior Retail Advisor at The Scotch Whisky Experience, where they interacted with customers, made recommendations, and conducted tastings.
Laurie's work experience extends back to 2009 when they started as a Sales Assistant at EWM, a role they held for three years.
Through their various roles, Laurie has developed strong communication, interpersonal, and selling skills, as well as extensive knowledge and passion for the whisky industry.
Laurie Black completed a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in Marketing at the University of Strathclyde from 2009 to 2013. Prior to that, Laurie attended George Heriot's School from 2003 to 2009, but the specific degree and field of study are unknown. In addition to their formal education, Laurie earned a Certificate of Expertise in the Sales & Service of Scotch Whisky from The Scotch Whisky Experience in March 2013.
