Alex N. Gecan is a Senior Reporter specializing in Public Safety at Berkeleyside since March 2023. Prior to this role, Gecan worked as a Reporter for Marin Independent Journal from July 2022 to March 2023 and spent six years as a Staff Writer for Gannett, specifically contributing to the Asbury Park Press from May 2016 to July 2022. Earlier experience includes a position as a Staff Writer for The Advocate under Hearst from January 2015 to May 2016, a Reporter role for The Middletown Press at Digital First Media from February 2013 to January 2015, and editorial positions at Renaissance Publishing, LLC, from April 2011 to August 2012. Gecan also served as a Fellow at the Toni Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism in 2010-2011 after earning a degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
