Dewan Arefeen has a strong background in quality assurance and compliance. Dewan began their career in 2005 at the University of Toronto, where they held various roles such as a microbiology teaching assistant and researcher. In 2010, they transitioned to the food industry and worked as a Quality Assurance Technician at Kretschmar, a Division of Premium Brands Operating Limited Partnership. In 2015, they joined Golden Valley Farms Inc. as a Quality Assurance Manager and also briefly served as a HACCP Coordinator. Currently, Dewan works at BERICAP, starting in 2018 as a Quality Assurance Manager and gradually moving up to the position of Group Quality Cluster Lead - North America. Dewan is currently serving as the Director of Quality and Compliance at BERICAP.

Dewan Arefeen's education history begins in 2003 when they enrolled at the University of Toronto Mississauga. They pursued a Bachelor of Science degree with a specialization in Biotechnology and a minor in Chemistry, completing their studies in 2007. Afterward, from 2007 to 2010, Dewan attended the University of Toronto, where they earned a Master of Science degree in Microbiology and Molecular Biology.

In addition to their academic achievements, Dewan has obtained several certifications. In 2011, they completed the Sausage and Processed Meat Short Course at the Hela Spice Canada Processed Meat Learning Centre. In 2012, they obtained the HACCP I-Prerequisite Program certification from the Guelph Food Technology Center. Following that, in 2013, Dewan obtained the Implementing SQF System certification from the Safe Quality Food Institute and the Practical HACCP for Food Processors certification from Silliker Canada.

In 2014, Dewan achieved the SQF Internal Auditor certification from NSF-GFTC, and in 2015, they obtained the HACCP and SQF for Food Processors certification from NSF-GFTC as well. Continuing their professional development, Dewan completed the Loblaw Academy Vendor Operating Standards Food Safety Program at the University of Guelph in 2016.

More recently, in 2019, Dewan obtained the ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor for Quality Management Systems certification from SGS. In 2020, they acquired two certifications: the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from McGill University's Desautels Faculty of Management and the United Nations/DOT Hazardous Materials Packaging Training from TEN-E Packaging Services, Inc. Finally, in 2023, Dewan obtained the Integrated Management Systems Internal Auditor certification for ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 450001:2018 from SGS.
