Mr. Smith enlisted in the US Navy immediately after high school. After completing Electronics Technician Class A and C schools served two-years of duty in the Philippines. While serving in the Philippines he was selected for the Navy's Broadened Opportunity for Officer Training and Selection (BOOST) program which was a NROTC scholarship program. Upon completing BOOST training in San Diego, CA he proceeded to Hampton University where he received a BS in Business Management and commission as a Surface Warfare Officer in the United States Navy. Mr. Smith subsequently served tours on two warships home based out of Norfolk, VA prior to being assigned to Prairie View A & M University as Assistant Professor of Naval Science and Recruiting Officer. Upon completion of duty at Prairie View he was assigned as Operations Officer/Executive Officer at Fort Dix Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS). After leaving Fort Dix MEPS he moved into the civilian work force as an Area Leader with Lincoln Industries in Lincoln, NE. While working at Lincoln Industries Mr. Smith was recalled to active duty in support of drug intervention operations with US Southern Command and USCOMNAVSO in Mayport, FL. Upon completion of tour and assignment he moved into a position as Operations Officer/Plant Manager with Tubular Steel in Katy, TX. Mr. Smith left Tubular Steel to serve active duty Navy assignments with the Joint Irregular Warfare Center in Norfolk, VA and Expeditionary Support Group Five in Manama, Bahrain which were completed in September 2010.
