Bin Zhu has a comprehensive work experience in the field of bioinformatics and data strategy. Starting from 2003, they worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Maryland, College Park until 2008. Following that, they served as a Visiting Bioinformatics Analyst at USDA-ARS in 2008. From 2009 to 2014, Zhu held multiple roles at OpGen, Inc., including Bioinformatics Scientist, Senior Bioinformatics Scientist, and Principal Bioinformatics Scientist. During this time, they led various genome analysis and genotyping projects. In 2014, Zhu joined Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. National Cancer Institute (NCI), NIH as a Manager, Bioinformatics and later became the Director of Bioinformatics. Bin led analysis, development, project support, and IT teams focusing on human cancer research. Their responsibilities included whole-genome sequencing analysis, array genotyping analysis, microbiome and methylation sequencing analysis, and bioinformatics tool and pipeline research and development. Since 2021, Zhu has been serving as the Senior Director of Bioinformatics/Data Science at GeneDx, where they contributed to data analysis and strategy. Currently, they are Senior Director of Data Strategy at Baylor Genetics, starting in 2023.
Bin Zhu has a strong educational background in the field of biomedical engineering. In 1996, they completed their Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering at Southeast University. Bin further pursued their studies and in 2003, they obtained a Master's Degree in the same field from the same university. Building upon their knowledge and commitment to academia, Bin Zhu went on to enroll at the University of Maryland. Between 2003 and 2008, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Bioengineering.
