Nico Spence began their work experience in 1984 as a Marketing Representative at IBM in Johannesburg, South Africa, where they achieved sales quotas and won the IBM Sales School. In 1986, they briefly worked as a Professional Golf Caddie for the PGA European Tour. In 1987, they became the Managing Director and Owner of Business & Design Software, growing and managing the company until it was sold to a publicly listed IT entity in 2002. From 2002 to 2008, Nico served as the Chief Marketing Officer for BASIS International Ltd., where they directed marketing strategy and restructured partner programs and distribution channels. Nico also acquired a controlling shareholding in a European application software developer. From September 2008 onwards, Nico took on the role of Chairman & CEO of BASIS International Ltd., overseeing the management of the organization and serving as the Managing Director of both the European subsidiary in Germany and the automotive software developer in The Netherlands.
Nico Spence attended Muir College from 1968 to 1976, earning a Matric degree. From 1977 to 1982, they pursued a BSc degree in Computer Science at the University of Cape Town.
