Thong M. Nguyen

Vice Chairman, Head of Global Strategy and Enterprise Platforms at Bank of America

Thong Nguyen is vice chairman and a member of the company’s executive management team. As head of Global Strategy and Enterprise Platforms, he oversees the Corporate Strategy, Enterprise Payments, and Wealth Management platforms.

His responsibilities include working closely with the chief executive officer and the board of directors to shape the company’s long-term strategic priorities; formulating and executing the payments strategy across the company; and driving the wealth management product development and operating platforms that serve clients of Merrill Lynch, the Private Bank and Consumer Banking.

Previously, Nguyen was president of Retail Banking where he oversaw the operations of Bank of America’s coast-to-coast retail financial centers, client service centers, the ATM network, Overseas Military Banking, and the award-winning digital banking platform with nearly 39 million active users, including nearly 30 million mobile users. His team was responsible for providing a full range of financial products and services to approximately 66 million consumer and small business clients.

Prior to his role in Retail Banking, he was the firm’s Corporate Strategy, Planning and Development executive and was responsible for M&A/dispositions activities, New BAC (the bank’s long-term initiative to simplify operations and reduce costs), the company’s Private Equity portfolio, and the China Construction Bank Strategic Assistance effort.

Nguyen also held various operational roles as division executive for U.S. Trust; head of Fiduciary Solutions at U.S. Trust; head of Private Advisory Services at Global Private Banking; Global Corporate and Investment Banking business executive; and head of Global Wealth and Investment Management’s Marketing and Business Development groups.

Before joining Bank of America, Nguyen worked at GE Capital and McKinsey & Co. He received a B.S. in mechanical engineering and an MBA in finance and marketing from Columbia University.
