Bruce R. Thompson

Vice Chair, Head of Enterprise Credit at Bank of America

Bruce R. Thompson is vice chair and head of Enterprise Credit. He is a member of Bank of America’s executive management team.

In this role, Thompson leads a global team responsible for delivering end- to-end credit solutions for the bank’s Retail Banking, Preferred Banking, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, Private Bank, Business Banking, Global Commercial Banking, Global Corporate & Investment Banking and Global Markets clients.

Prior to his current role, Thompson was based in Dublin, Ireland where he was president of the bank’s operations across the European Union and Switzerland and was chief executive officer of Bank of America Europe DAC, its primary European banking entity.

Thompson was chief financial officer at Bank of America from 2011 to 2015 with responsibility for all finance functions, as well as Corporate Treasury, Investor Relations and Corporate Investments. Before that, he was chief risk officer for Bank of America (2010-2011), responsible for working with the company’s lines of business to identify and navigate credit, market and operational risk to support sustainable growth.

Thompson joined Bank of America as a managing director in 1996 and served in a variety of roles, including head of U.S. Leveraged Finance Debt Capital Markets, co-head of the Global Credit Products platform, and head of Global Leveraged Finance. In 2008, he was named head of Global Capital Markets, where he was responsible for Equity Capital Markets, Investment Grade Capital Markets, Leveraged Acquisition Finance, High Yield Capital Markets, Debt Advisory Services, Loan Capital Markets and Global Origination for Rates and Currencies.

Thompson graduated with honors from Allegheny College in 1986 and from the Darden School of Business, also with honors, in 1990. Thompson currently is a trustee of the Darden School Foundation at the University of Virginia, where he chairs the audit/finance committee. In addition, he is a member of the board of trustees of Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., where he serves on the executive committee and the budget and finance committee.
