Leonardo Maldonado is the current Vice President of Commercial Lending at Banesco USA. Leonardo has over fifteen years of experience in the financial industry, specializing in credit and risk management.
Maldonado began their career in 2002 as a Credit Risk Auditor at Banco Santander. In this role, they were responsible for auditing the bank's credit portfolios and reconciling them on a monthly and quarterly basis. Leonardo also conducted benchmarking analysis of the loans portfolios of the Puerto Rico Banking Industry.
In 2004, Maldonado transitioned to BBVA as a Senior Commercial Risk Officer. In this role, they supervised and monitored the development of the commercial loans portfolios of the bank, including Middle Markets, Corporate Banking, and the Construction Department. Leonardo also executed credit risk analysis of commercial and consumer loans to enforce the bank's credit policies and procedures.
In 2006, Maldonado left BBVA to join Firstbank Puerto Rico as a Business Relationship Officer. In this role, they were responsible for structuring complex credit facilities in accordance with the bank's credit policy. Leonardo also performed and presented credit proposals to the bank's credit committee.
Maldonado joined BanescoUSA in 2012 and has been serving as the Vice President of Commercial Lending since 2018. In this role, they are responsible for managing a team of commercial lenders and providing guidance on loan structuring, underwriting, and portfolio management.
Maldonado's educational career includes completing an MBA in Business Administration from the University of Miami, as well as a School of Business Baccalaureate Degree in Business Administration; Finance and Accounting from the University of Puerto Rico RÃo.
Leonardo Maldonado reports to Maritza AbadÃa, EVP, Puerto Rico Country Manager. They are on a team with Maria Mercedes Norcisa - VP, Commercial Lender, Francisco Portero - VP, Commercial Lender, and Miguel Cartagena - VP, Commercial Lender.
