Gary Duan began their career in 2011 as a Marketing Intern at BTTR Ventures. Gary also held a concurrent role as a Marketing Intern at WaysToHelp. In 2011, they joined Back to the Roots, Inc. as a Marketing, Operations, and Product Development Associate. Gary then moved up to Operations Manager, where they managed and launched the supply for both ready to grow and ready to eat product lines. Gary also handled the largest contracts in the USA for identity-preserved 100% stone-ground whole wheat (organic/biodynamic) and purple corn. In 2013, they became Co-founder of Kanga Kare, where they worked hand-in-hand with Ashoka Thailand and medical professionals to develop a revolutionary baby incubator. Gary returned to Back to the Roots, Inc. in 2014 as Director of Operations, where they created the supply chain for the future generation of gardeners. Gary built the supply chain and launched the first 100% USA-grown seed packets program in nationwide distribution, commercialized the first Peat-Free Soil line, and launched over 30 innovative indoor grow kits in full nationwide distribution. Gary also lead the transition of the company's radically transparent organic cereal line exclusive licensing agreement with Nature's Path. In 2017, they were promoted to Senior Director of Operations and sat on the leadership team, partaking in quarterly board meetings with the Board of Directors.
Gary Duan attended Mira Loma High School from 2006 to 2010 and completed the International Baccalaureate Program Diploma. Gary then attended the University of California, Berkeley from 2010 to 2014, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with concentrations in Human-Centered Design and Technology Entrepreneurship. In 2013, they also attended the University of Hong Kong and earned a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree.
