Guy Gunasekera has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Guy is currently employed at Aware Super as a Program Manager focused on mergers and corporate growth, a position they have held since April 2020.

Prior to their current role, Gunasekera worked at Deloitte Australia as an Associate Director, where they led teams of up to 12 members and was responsible for planning engagements, establishing workplans and milestones, and liaising with key stakeholders. Guy also facilitated workshops for executive-level stakeholders and operational business units. Gunasekera held various roles at Deloitte Australia, including Associate Director for Value Creation Services and Manager for Restructuring and Turnaround.

Gunasekera further expanded their expertise during their secondment at Commonwealth Bank, where they served as a Separation Lead and Program Manager. Their responsibilities included providing separation program management leadership in a significant sale. Guy reported directly to the Executive Sponsor and Program Director on the progress of 25 separation workstreams.

Early on in their career, Gunasekera worked at McGrathNicol as a Manager. Guy gained experience in operational and corporate restructuring, formal insolvency appointments, and corporate advisory engagements. Guy also worked on a secondment at Borrelli Walsh Limited in Singapore, where they specialized in restructuring, insolvency, and forensic accounting.

Outside of the professional realm, Gunasekera served as Treasurer for Balmain Rugby Club, overseeing cash and working capital management, liaising with stakeholders, and preparing financial reports. Guy also held the position of Bar Manager at The London Hotel, Balmain, and worked in the Lifts Department at Vail Ski Resorts.

Guy Gunasekera's education history begins in the year 2000 when they enrolled at the University of Sydney to pursue a Bachelor of Medical Science, specializing in Pharmacology and Physiology. Guy completed this degree in 2003. After a few years, Guy decided to further their education in the field of Economics and Accounting, and from 2006 to 2008, they attended the University of Sydney once again, this time earning a Bachelor of Economics.

In 2009, Guy Gunasekera took a step towards their career in finance by enrolling in the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. Guy successfully completed their Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting in 2012. Following this, Guy pursued a Graduate Certificate in Insolvency and Restructuring from QUT (Queensland University of Technology) between 2012 and 2013, which deepened their understanding of insolvency-related topics.

Looking to enhance their business acumen, Guy enrolled in the AGSM @ UNSW Business School in 2021, where they are currently pursuing an Executive MBA.

In addition to their formal education, Guy Gunasekera has also attained an additional certification in the Insolvency Education Program from Queensland University of Technology, although the specific timing of the program's completion is not provided.
