Dr. Conley has an in-depth background in academic molecular biology/biochemistry research and clinical medicine, along with a business background as a consultant for healthcare companies and independent IRBs, a reviewer for clinical grants, and is the founder of Avancen. She is the author of several peer-reviewed and published clinical research protocols. She is inventor of Avancen’s first medical device – the MOD® for Medication on Demand – for the delivery of oral as-needed pain medication in acute care and skilled nursing care facilities. She holds six U.S. patents issued on medical devices and has one patent filed and pending. She manages continuing research protocols to facilitate the evidence-based adoption of these devices. She has received numerous honors, including Certified Pain Educator (2014), CMS Healthcare Innovation Challenge Award (2012), Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program Grant (2005), Amgen Clinical Research Grant (2003), and Outstanding Senior Medicine Resident Award, University of Missouri at Columbia (1988). She received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Alabama – Birmingham (1974) and an M.D. at the University of Missouri – Columbia (1985).
