Michael Royals

Chief Science Officer at Avana Health

Michael Royals has a diverse work experience in the healthcare industry. Michael is currently working as the Chief Science Officer at Avana Health since September 2021. Prior to this, they were a Consultant at Micron Biomedical, Inc. starting from January 2017.

From July 2015 to March 2022, Michael served as the Co-Founder of Thrivant Health, PBC. In this role, they focused on developing an affordable solution for animal birth control to address dog-human conflict in low- and middle-income countries.

Before that, they held the position of President and Chief Science Officer at Biologistics Medical, Inc. from July 2005 to July 2015. Michael then moved on to PharmaJet, Inc., where they served as Head of Global Applications Development from January 2011 to January 2014. Michael later became the Chief Science Officer at the same company, overseeing pre-clinical and clinical research programs as well as new product development.

Michael started their career as a Clinical Research Veterinarian at B. Braun Group in August 1997. In this role, they contributed to business development strategies, established key relationships, conducted analyses of competitive therapies, and led preclinical programs in support of regulatory submissions. Michael worked at B. Braun Group until August 2001.

Prior to that, Michael worked as a Clinical Laboratory Animal Veterinarian at Colorado State University from June 1995 to August 1997. Their responsibilities included clinical care, compliance audits, disease surveillance, and lecturing in graduate-level veterinary medical courses.

Michael Royals earned their Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Sciences from Montana State University-Bozeman in the years 1984 to 1988. Michael then pursued further education and obtained a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in the years 1988 to 1995, specializing in physiology and molecular pathology research. In addition, they hold a certification as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies.
