Evan Smith is a Senior Advisor at Emerson Collective, with a long-standing role as a Professor of Practice and Instructor at The LBJ School of Public Affairs since January 2014. Additionally, Evan serves as a Trustee for the LBJ Foundation, a Contributing Writer for The Atlantic, and hosts the programs Overheard with Evan Smith and Texas Monthly Talks on Austin PBS. Inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame in 2022, Evan is also a Board Member for the Austin Film Society and St. Stephen's Episcopal School. As a Distinguished Fellow in Journalism at the University of Virginia for 2023, Evan previously co-founded and served as Chief Executive Officer and Senior Advisor for The Texas Tribune from August 2009 to December 2023, and held a board member position at PBS until August 2020. Educational credentials include a Master of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy from Hamilton College.
