Sam Smothers has a diverse work experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry. They started their career as a Registered Nurse at Arkansas Children's Hospital in 1990. They then worked at I Care of Arkansas Home Infusion, initially providing direct patient care and later serving as the Director of Operations. At United Medical Home Infusion, they served as the Director of Operations, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Home Infusion Pharmacy.

In their roles at MedImmune - Specialty Care Division of AstraZeneca, Sam was a Senior Regional Account Manager, responsible for securing formulary access and supporting Field Reimbursement teams. They also served as a Clinical Marketing Manager, leading initiatives to expand coverage criteria within state Medicaid programs. Additionally, they worked as a Biotech Sales Specialist, promoting pediatric specialty injectable products and collaborating with partners on reimbursement and logistics.

At AstraZeneca, Sam was a Regional Account Director, responsible for implementing company strategies with regional and national accounts. They collaborated with Managed Care Plans and Integrated Delivery Networks to develop specific plans for accounts and facilitated access to patient education programs and reimbursement assistance.

Most recently, Sam worked at Endo Pharmaceuticals as a Senior Field Reimbursement Manager. In this role, they provided reimbursement and access support for multiple specialty injectable products, with a focus on Buy and Bill and Specialty Pharmacy Channels. They also served as an FRM Specialty Pharmacy Liason, supporting Specialty Pharmacy operations and processes.

Currently, Sam is working at Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc. as an Associate Director, Access Operations, where their responsibilities include managing access operations and supporting the field staff.

Sam Smothers earned a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Jacksonville University in 2011. Prior to that, Sam attended the Baptist System School of Nursing but did not obtain a degree. In addition to formal education, Sam also obtained certifications in Essentials of Team Collaboration from LinkedIn in May 2023, and as a Prior Authorization Specialist from the National Board of Prior Authorization Specialists in June 2021.
