Rick Petersen has a strong background in health, safety, and environmental (HSE) management with over 27 years of experience. Rick has held various high-level positions, including Vice President of HSE Innovation, Strategy, and Programmes at ´¡³Ù°ì¾±²Ô²õ¸éé²¹±ô¾±²õ since November 2020. In this role, they are responsible for developing innovative solutions and programs to improve HSE performance.
Prior to this, Rick served as the Vice President of HSE Infrastructure Projects and Services at the same company from March 2017 to November 2020. Rick also held the position of Vice President of HSSE - O&G at ´¡³Ù°ì¾±²Ô²õ¸éé²¹±ô¾±²õ from October 2012 to March 2017, where they led a team of professionals in supporting HSE activities and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Before joining ´¡³Ù°ì¾±²Ô²õ¸éé²¹±ô¾±²õ, Rick worked at Paramount Resources as a Team Leader for Safety and Emergency Response from May 2011 to October 2012. In this role, they managed the development and implementation of the company's HSE management system and provided guidance on regulatory compliance.
Rick also has experience working with the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) as a member of their Safety Committees from 1997 to 2012 and with Enform as a Program Manager for Industry Initiatives from April 2010 to May 2011. In these positions, they were involved in project management, industry collaboration, and the development of safety guidelines and initiatives.
Earlier in their career, Rick held a leadership role at Petro-Canada where they were responsible for overseeing health, safety, and emergency preparedness services for their North American natural gas operations from October 2005 to March 2010.
Rick's career in HSE management began at BP where they worked as a Senior HSSE Advisor from January 1993 to September 2005. In this role, they implemented and managed safety management systems, conducted audits, and provided technical assistance on health and safety issues.
Throughout their career, Rick has demonstrated a commitment to improving HSE performance, implementing innovative solutions, and promoting a culture of safety in various organizations.
Rick Petersen completed their education at various institutions. Rick obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a focus on Leadership and Sustainability from the University of Cumbria in 2020. Prior to that, they earned a B.Sc. in Business Management from the University of Phoenix in 2010. In 2005, they completed an OH&S Certificate at Ryerson University. Additionally, Rick holds several certifications, including being a NSC Member of the National Safety Council since 2016, an HSE Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers International since 2013, and a Certified Safety Professional from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals since 2011. Rick is also affiliated with professional organizations such as ASSE Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) since 2008 and a Canadian Registered Safety Professional from the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals since 2006. Lastly, they obtained a Wilderness First Responder certification from Rocky Mountain Adventure Medicine Inc. in October 2020.
