Steven Byrnes is a Research Fellow at Astera Institute since August 2022, focusing on Artificial General Intelligence safety through neuroscience and algorithms. Prior to this role, Byrnes conducted grant-funded independent research from March 2021 to August 2022 with a similar focus. From October 2015 to February 2021, Byrnes served as Principal Member of the Technical Staff at Draper, excelling in the development of innovative technologies and algorithms across multiple applications. Before that, Byrnes was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, engaging in theoretical and experimental research in applied physics. Steven Byrnes holds a PhD in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley and a BA in Physics and Math from Harvard University.
