John Welch currently serves as the Chief Underwriting Officer for Reinsurance at Aspen Insurance Group, a position held since June 2023, where leadership is provided for the reinsurance function encompassing specialty, property, and casualty portfolios. Prior to joining Aspen, John Welch held multiple executive roles at AXA, including Chief Executive of Domestic Markets and Chief Executive North America within AXA XL Reinsurance from September 2018 to November 2022. Additional experience includes serving as Chief Executive North American Reinsurance at XL Catlin from May 2015 to January 2020 and President of XL Reinsurance America from July 2006 to April 2015. John Welch began career in the insurance industry as a Reinsurance Actuary at Travelers Insurance from April 1996 to March 1997. Educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Fairfield University, earned between 1983 and 1987.
