Nicolas Castrillon has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. Nicolas started their career at GE Appliances, where they worked as a Drive System Design Engineer and later as a Structures Design Engineer. In these roles, they designed and executed production of various components for appliances, validating the designs for safety, quality, and functionality. Nicolas also contributed to GE Appliances through the Edison Engineering Development Program, completing assignments in refrigeration, gas cooktops, dishwashers, and clothes washers.
After their time at GE Appliances, Nicolas joined GE Power as a Lead Mechanical Development Engineer. In this role, they played a key role in developing mechanical systems for power generation applications. Nicolas later joined Baker Hughes as a Technical Project Manager.
Nicolas then pursued a PhD in Computational Manufacturing at the University of California, Berkeley. During their time there, they led research in Additive Manufacturing at the Computational Manufacturing and Materials Research Lab. Nicolas'sresearch focused on accurate simulation methods for manufacturing processes and efficient solvers for manufacturing problems. Nicolas also worked as a Graduate Student Instructor during their time at Berkeley.
Nicolas further expanded their experience through internships. Nicolas worked as a Mechanical Engineer Intern at Intact Solutions, Inc., and as a Summer Graduate Intern at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. At Lawrence Livermore, they built and streamlined a Python-based 3D thermal simulation for additive manufacturing and trained an Autoencoder for faster thermal field computations.
Most recently, Nicolas joined Artyc as a Senior Mechanical Engineer.
Nicolas Castrillon has a strong educational background in Mechanical Engineering. Nicolas began their academic journey at the University of Florida, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from 2004 to 2008. Moving forward, they pursued further studies at the University of California, Berkeley. From 2017 to 2019, they obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical Engineering. Nicolas continued their educational pursuit at the same institution, earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Mechanical Engineering from 2017 to 2022.
In addition to their formal education, Nicolas Castrillon has also obtained a certification in Green Belt - Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) from GE in January 2011.
