Matthew Lewis is an experienced conservation professional currently serving as a Program Officer at Arcus Foundation since January 2023, focusing on the conservation of great apes and gibbons. Previously, Matthew worked as a consultant for Fauna & Flora International and BirdLife International, where tasks included gathering partner perspectives to improve engagement and developing spatial-analytical tools for biodiversity conservation, respectively. Matthew's project management roles include overseeing the Loango Gorilla Project at the Max-Planck-Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology and leading assessments of chimpanzee populations in Tanzania. Educational qualifications include a Master of Philosophy in Conservation Leadership from the University of Cambridge and a Bachelor's Degree in Zoology from Trinity College Dublin.
