Annette Lanjouw

Annette Lanjouw has a long and diverse work experience in the field of conservation and wildlife. Annette has held various roles and positions throughout their career.

Annette started their career in 1987 as a Program Officer at the Frankfurt Zoological Society, where they worked for three years. Annette then joined the Wildlife Conservation Society in 1990 as a PARCS Coordinator, where they managed the Central and West Africa portion of the Protected Area Conservation Strategy.

In 1991, Annette became the Director of the International Gorilla Conservation Program, a position they held for 14 years until 2005. During this time, they made significant contributions to gorilla conservation efforts.

In 2005, Annette took on multiple roles simultaneously. Annette became a Regional Director at Fauna & Flora International, a Program Officer at the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, and a Member of the Section Great Apes Primate Specialist Group.

In 2007, Annette joined the Arcus Foundation as the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and the Great Apes Program. Annette held this position until 2017 when they were promoted to Co-Executive Director and Head of the Great Apes Program. In 2019, they were appointed as the Chief Executive Officer, the highest position in the organization.

In addition to their work experience, Annette has also been an active member of various professional groups and organizations, such as the Section Great Apes Primate Specialist Group.

Annette Lanjouw's education history includes obtaining a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Zoology & Psychology from Victoria University of Wellington, which they completed between the years 1980 and 1983. Subsequently, they pursued their education at Utrecht University, where they completed their Doctorandus degree in Behavioural Ecology Primates from 1985 to 1987.
