Carol Ahern has had a varied and extensive work experience. Carol began their career in 1996 as a Sales Secretary/Receptionist at CTI Technologies Pty Ltd, then moved on to Legal Secretary/PA at Austen Smith Attorneys. In 1999, they were a Departmental Administrator (Temp) at East Berkshire College, followed by a role as PA to the Director of Technology Finance at BT Cellnet. From 2000 to 2018, they were a Lecturer in Purchasing and Supply Management and Strategic Operations Management at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, as well as a PA to the Head of School and Senior Administrative Officer. Carol also worked as a Mentor/Tutor/Trainer at Office Plus Academy. From 2018 to 2019, they were an Account & Project Management Consultant at Concept Integrated Systems, and is currently an Implementation Consultant at Aravo Solutions - Integrated Risk & Resilience.

Carol Ahern has an extensive education history. Carol obtained their Matric With Exemption from Pietermaritzburg Girls High School between 1990 and 1994. Carol then went on to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration in Logistics, Materials, and Supply Chain Management at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Carol was awarded Dean's Commendation for Strategic Management Hons and Management Science in 2006 and 2000 respectively. In 2005, they received a BSc in Supply Chain Management and Advanced Management and in 2008 they received an MSc in the same field. Additionally, they obtained a certification in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2008.
