Kevin P Nichols

VP, Strategic Initiatives at Aptitude Medical Systems

Kevin P Nichols began their work experience as a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Chicago in 2009, where they developed droplet microfluidic systems and co-invented the SlipChip. Kevin P then worked as a Chemical Engineer at Argonne National Laboratory from 2010 to 2012. Nichols joined GH Labs in 2012 and held multiple roles, including Microfluidics Scientist and Senior Research Manager, before becoming the Principal Investigator for Flow Based Diagnostics. At GH Labs, they led product development efforts for molecular and immunoassays and conducted research on novel diagnostic platforms. Some of their key accomplishments include developing an open-source COVID assay that received EUA in the US, licensing polydisperse digital PCR technology to a major diagnostics manufacturer, and creating high-throughput reporter phage assay systems and microfluidic devices for water quality monitoring. Nichols then worked at Amazon from 2020 to 2023, serving as the Chief Science Officer for New Products. Currently, they are the VP of Strategic Initiatives at Aptitude Medical Systems.

Kevin P Nichols has a strong educational background in engineering. Kevin P completed their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biological Engineering at Cornell University from 2000 to 2004. Following this, they pursued a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree in Biological Engineering at Cornell University, which they completed from 2004 to 2005. Kevin then went on to obtain their Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Twente, where they studied from 2005 to 2009. To further their research and expertise, they engaged in a Postdoctoral Scholar program at the University of Chicago from 2009 to 2010.
