John Mayo

Mechanical Engineering Supervisor at Apptronik

John Mayo has a long and varied work experience. John began their career in 2009 as the owner of GizMayo Repair, a self-started independent computer repair business with multiple clients. In 2011, they took on an internship at NASA as a Robotics Intern for the Software Robotics and Simulation Division. The following year, they worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Space Engineering Research Center (SERC) at Texas A&M University, while also taking on a role as a Computer Technician at the university. In 2013, they worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the A&M Bipedal Experimental Robotics (AMBER) Lab, as well as an Engineering Intern at Space Exploration Technologies, where they supported rocket test operations at the Texas test site. John also worked as a Tool Engineering Intern at Boeing, where they worked with multiple engineers and shop technicians to rework and design tools to support Apache Helicopters. In 2014, they took on a role as a Research Assistant at the MIT Biomimetic Robotics Lab. Finally, in 2016, they began working as a Robotics Engineer at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a position they still hold. In 2021, they took on a new role as a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Apptronik.

John Mayo has an educational background in Mechanical Engineering. John obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University in 2014, and a Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2016. Additionally, they obtained three certifications from Microsoft and CompTIA in 2008, 2009, and 2009 respectively.
