Sean Allen has worked in a variety of roles in the scientific field. In 2021, they began their current role as Senior Scientist at Appia Bio. Prior to that, they were a Postdoctoral Scholar at the California NanoSystems Institute at UCLA from 2019-2021. From 2013-2016, they worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at Northwestern University, where they were responsible for the synthesis and characterization of amphiphilic diblock copolymer and the fabrication and characterization of nanoparticles. Sean also held the role of Research Intern at Genentech from 2016-2019 and Graduate Student Appointee at the Biotechnology Training Program - Northwestern University from 2014-2016. Before that, they were a Graduate Student Researcher at San Francisco State University from 2010-2013 and a Mathematics Tutor at Bay Area Tutoring Centers from 2009-2010.
Sean Allen completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2009. Sean then went on to pursue a Masters degree in Molecular Cell Biology from San Francisco State University, which they completed in 2013. In the same year, they began their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Molecular Biology at Northwestern University and completed the degree in 2019.
