Nick Schaffner

Director of Design & Research at Anthroware

Nick Schaffner has been working in the design and research industry since 2000. Nick began their career as a Production Artist at Side Effects TV in 2000, where they created motion graphic bumpers, intros, and credits in After Effects for Outside TV and Shimano. Nick also maintained websites and developed interactive Flash animations. In 2003, they moved to Highbrow Studio as a Graphic Designer, where they designed and developed websites, branding, logos, print marketing, and online advertisements for clients as a freelance studio. Nick also developed a lightweight CMS tool for clients utilizing Google documents as a database, as well as an open source TrueType font rendering application in PHP used in websites across the globe. In 2005, they became the Lead Designer and E-commerce Manager at START HAUS, where they designed visual branding, creative assets, marketing, and social engagement for one of the top-rated ski shops in the world. Nick also grew the shop's annual revenue by 500% and managed a team of 40 employees. In 2011, they moved to Orbital Laboratory as a Senior Design Partner, specializing in unique, bespoke design and beautiful presentation of UX/UI. Nick worked as a project leader, client salesperson, creative director, developer, concept artist, and production artist. Currently, they are the Director of Design & Research at Anthroware, leading cross-functional teams and clients through the full branding and product design experience with a human-centered approach. Nick creates delightful solutions and follows end-to-end customer journeys, with an emphasis on validating designs with research and integrating business modeling and experimentation.

Nick Schaffner graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Illustration from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2003.
