James Payne is a Scientist II specializing in Protein Engineering at Antheia, Inc. since September 2021. Prior to this role, James worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Stanford University from March 2016 to September 2021, focusing on engineering Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains to produce complex plant natural products. James began their research career at the University of Chicago as a Research Assistant from September 2010 to December 2015, where the work involved engineering the halogenase RebH for functionalizing bioactive molecules. Academically, James holds a PhD and an MS in Organic Chemistry from the University of Chicago (2010-2015) and a BS in Chemistry along with a BA in Astronomy from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (2005-2010).
