Shelby Hernandez has a diverse work experience spanning various industries. Shelby began their career in 2006 as a Merchandise Manager at JCPenney, where they worked until 2014. Following that, they joined Newport News Public Schools as an Elementary School Teacher from 2014 to 2022. Currently, they hold two roles concurrently at An Achievable Dream, starting in 2022. One of their positions is Director of Program Engagement, which they have held since May 2023, and the other is Events and Social Media Manager.

Shelby Hernandez obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Elementary Education from Old Dominion University, where they studied from 2008 to 2011. Shelby further pursued their education at the same university by completing a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Elementary Education from 2013 to 2014.
