Iris Afonso George has a diverse work experience that includes positions in education and non-profit organizations. Iris most recently worked as the Outreach Director for Amigos for Christ starting in 2022. Prior to that, they founded and managed The Grafted Familia, where they served as a translator and interpreter for child welfare cases. Iris also worked as a Spanish Teacher for ACCESS Distance Learning and Houston Academy, teaching Spanish language and creating online resources. Iris has experience as a High School Spanish Teacher and Track Coach at Holmes County High School and as a Latin America Adoption Specialist at Lifeline Children's Services. Iris started their career as the Director of Missionaries and Volunteers at Amigos for Christ.
Iris Afonso George obtained their B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from Duke University, where they studied from 2003 to 2007. Later, they pursued a Master in Public Administration at The University of Georgia, completing their studies in 2012.
