Duane D. Johnson

Faculty Scientist (theory/simulation) at Ames Laboratory

Duane D. Johnson is an Anson Marston Distinguished Professor of Engineering and F. Wendell Miller Professor of Energy Sciences at Iowa State University, where research focuses on condensed-matter and materials theory, particularly in electronic-structure-based thermodynamics and data-driven materials discovery. Concurrently, Duane serves as a Faculty Scientist at Ames Laboratory, leading efforts in theory-directed materials innovation and developing advanced thermodynamic methods. Previous positions include adjunct faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where Duane guided PhD research, and a senior role at Sandia National Laboratories, contributing significantly to computational materials science. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Condensed Matter and Materials Physics and a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Cincinnati.
