Kate Koons is an experienced professional in the fields of risk management, outdoor education, and avalanche safety. Since August 2020, Kate serves as a Field Risk Manager for Antarctic Support Contract/Leidos. In addition, Kate has taught Pro 1 avalanche courses for the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education since December 2018 and has been a Senior Ski Guide with Teton Backcountry Guides since January 2010, where custom avalanche courses are conducted. Previously, Kate was a Senior Field Instructor and Program Supervisor at NOLS, supervising winter and summer programming and managing instructor training. Kate also coordinated Professional Level Avalanche courses for the American Avalanche Association from December 2017 to August 2020 and briefly worked as a Field Camp Manager for PAE. Kate holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from Skidmore College.
