John Howington, MD, MBA, FACS, FCCP, currently serves as President Elect and President Designate for the American College of Chest Physicians since January 2023, while also working as a Thoracic Surgeon at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. Previously, Howington held prominent roles including Chief of Oncology Services and Medical Director & Co-Chair of the Oncology Service Line at Ascension from January 2018 to December 2022, and Chair of Thoracic Surgery at Saint Thomas Health from April 2016 to December 2022. Additionally, Howington served as President of the CHEST Foundation from November 2014 to October 2016 and contributed to NorthShore University HealthSystem as Vice Chair of Surgery for Quality and Patient Safety and Division Head of Thoracic Surgery between June 2007 and March 2016. Howington's educational background includes an Executive MBA from Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee and a Doctor of Medicine degree from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
