Lizbeth Carlan

Education Director - Latin America And Caribbean Region at American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)

Lizbeth Carlan has had a diverse range of work experience in the petroleum geology field. Lizbeth began their career as a Petrologist Intern at the Instituto Geológico Minero y Metalúrgico in 2012. Lizbeth then worked as a Geologist Petrophysicist Intern at Schlumberger for several months in 2014, gaining training in processing and interpretation of seismic data. Following this, Carlan joined SAVIA PERU as a Development Geologist Trainee, where they focused on quality control of seismic and well data and participated in the integration of 3D seismic data with reservoir data.

In 2015, Carlan started working at Karoon Energy as a Petrophysicist trainee, assisting with well logs interpretation and seismic interpretation in different basins. Lizbeth later transitioned to the role of Geoscientist/Petrophysicist, where they were responsible for petrophysical interpretation and participated in technical discussions for the evaluation of new opportunities.

In 2019, Carlan joined Ecopetrol as a Petrophysicist, where they focused on interpreting lithofacies, depositional environments, and petrophysical parameters for Presalt reservoirs. Currently, they serve as the Education Director for the Latin America and Caribbean Region at the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, actively involved in providing guidance and communicating opportunities to students in the field.

Lizbeth Carlan's education history includes various academic pursuits in different fields and institutions. In 2009, they obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geological Engineering from Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, specializing in Geology/Earth Science, General. In 2012, they received an International Certificate called the First Certificate in English (FCE) from the University of Cambridge, accredited by Cambridge ESOL examinations. In 2013, Lizbeth attended the Alliance Française de Lima, where they studied the French Language. Following this, in 2017, they pursued a Master's degree in Basin Analysis and Mobile Belts from UERJ. During the same year, they also attended the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro to study the Portuguese language. Lastly, in 2020, they completed an online program on Leadership and Innovation from MIT Professional Education.
