Juli Staiano, Chief Advancement Officer, has led philanthropy at AAAS since 2008 and assumed oversight of membership—and the combined Advancement Office—in 2022. She has led and supported AAAS-wide efforts to secure millions of dollars in unrestricted and programmatic contributions annually from individuals, corporations, and foundations and is now working in partnership with a dedicated team of talented professionals to achieve a new vision for membership and philanthropy at an exciting time for AAAS.
As Director of Partnership Development at the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health from 2001-2008, she implemented a “partnership development” approach to public-private collaborations leading to several multi-million-dollar, multi-year gifts; laid the groundwork for and launched the Biomarkers Consortium, a major public-private biomedical research partnership bringing together leaders in government, industry, academia, and NGOs, which has since raised more than $70 million to improve drug development, clinical care, and regulatory decision-making; and obtained $25 million in private-sector support for the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative, creating a governance structure that has been replicated in related initiatives around the world. From 1997-2001, she served in various fundraising roles at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
