Yumiko Murakami Yap has worked in a variety of roles since 2007. Yumiko began their career as a Japanese Language Instructor at the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2007. In 2009, they moved to The Japan-America Society of Washington DC to serve as a Japanese Language Instructor. From 2010 to 2016, they worked at Showa Daiichi Gakuen High School as an English Teacher, Homeroom Teacher, Study Abroad Trip Organizer, and English Club Advisor. In 2016, they joined Amara Subtitles as a Language Manager and Translator/Subtitler. Since 2019, they have been working as a Private Japanese Language Instructor.

Yumiko Murakami Yap obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Intercultural Communication Program from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2009. Yumiko studied in the Modern Languages and Linguistics Department from 2007 to 2009.
