Steve McKerrall is a highly experienced medicinal chemist currently serving as the Director of Medicinal Chemistry at Altos Labs since March 2024. Prior to this role, Steve held the same title at Septerna from January 2022 to March 2024. At Genentech, from July 2014 to January 2022, Steve progressed from Principal Scientist and Chemistry Team Leader, leading teams in both early-stage research on Immunology projects and late-stage research and clinical development on Neuroscience projects. Steve's earlier experience includes serving as a Senior Scientist and Chemistry Team Leader at The Scripps Research Institute from June 2010 to June 2014, where research focused on the total synthesis of complex diterpenoids. Steve earned a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Scripps Research (2010-2014) and a B.S. in Chemistry and Philosophy from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (2006-2010).
